Noah Shannon loses NCAA appeal

The Iowa football career for Noah Shannon may officially be over. The senior defensive tackle has been stuck in suspension limbo by the NCAA for gambling on sports while a student-athlete at the University of Iowa.
Shannon has not denied that he placed a bet on an Iowa sporting event, but not related to Hawkeye football, but he had been appealing the decision to suspend him for the entire season. Apparently that appeal has been denied, per Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz at his Tuesday press conference.
The 6-foot and 295 pound defensive tackle from Illinois started 27 straight games in the 2021 and 2022 season for the Hawkeyes. In his Iowa career, Shannon logged 107 tackles, including 11 for loss, and 4.5 sacks. He also forced one fumble and deflected a pair of passes.

Prior to this season, Shannon was selected by his teammates as one of three players who would represent the Iowa program in Indianapolis for Big Ten Media Days. Shannon eventually declined the honor due to the sports gambling investigation.
He was on the sidelines for the opening win over Utah State and traveled with the Hawkeyes to Ames this past weekend.
