When it come to the sport of football, schedule releases have become an event. Whether it’s the National Football League or the Big Ten, it’s a huge day for fans to see who their school will play in conference games in the next season.

For the Big Ten Conference, the schedule release carries even more importance. First, it will be the first conference schedule that includes new members USC and UCLA. Second, it also marks the end of the divisions in the Big Ten. Gone are the days of Legends and Leaders and more recently the East and West. From here on out, the top two teams in the conference will play for the league title on first Saturday in December.

Finally, as has been rumored for the past 24 hours, there will be a flex scheduling model. What that means is schools can pick a different number of protected rivalry games. For Iowa, that means the Hawkeyes have decided to protect their three trophy games.  Based on this model, each year Iowa will play Minnesota for Floyd of Rosedale, Wisconsin for the Heartland Trophy, and Nebraska for the Heroes Trophy.

Another feature of the new schedule model is to avoid large gaps in playing fellow Big Ten institutions. For example, last year was the first time that Iowa played Ohio State since 2017 and it had been since 2013 for the Hawkeyes actually traveling to Columbus for a football game. The goal is to play every team in the conference, home and away, at least once every four to five years. That way every student-athlete who stays at their school will be able to experience playing a fellow conference member home and away in their career.

Here’s the full schedule for the Iowa Football team in the 2024 season.

8/31 – Illinois State

9/7 – Iowa State

9/14 – Troy

The Hawkeyes will also host UCLA, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Maryland. Iowa will travel to USC, Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Illinois.

The schedule for the 2025 Iowa football season is slightly different with the three protected games against Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

8/30 Florida Atlantic

9/6 at Iowa State

11/15 UMASS

The Hawkeyes will host Michigan, MSU, Minnesota, NW, and Penn State. They will travel to: Iowa State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, Nebraska.
