Iowa basketball wraps up 3-0 trip overseas
The first two games of the overseas trip for the Iowa men’s basketball team were not very challenging. The final score might not indicate it, but the Hawkeyes were tested on Monday evening in Barcelona before pulling away for a convincing 106-79 victory over the Barcelona All Stars.
Iowa was paced by seven players reaching double figures. The trio of Payton Sandfort, Ben Krikke, and sophomore Dasonte Bowen scored 16 points each. Sandfort also pulled down a team high 14 rebounds in the contest. Josh Dix and Tony Perkins had identical lines of 14 points and five assists. The freshmen duo of Brock Harding and Owen Freeman rounded out the Hawkeyes in double figure scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Hawkeyes were pushed in this one. They trailed 32-24 at the end of the first quarter as the Barcelona squad was raining in three’s. Iowa closed the deficit to four, 56-52, at the break. Then the Hawkeyes poured it on in the second half. The Hawkeyes raced out to a 10-2 start in the third and eventually outscored Barcelona 28-11 in the third period to go up 80-63.
