Cade McNamara listed as Iowa's starting QB
The Iowa quarterback position is back to where it started. When the Hawkeyes released their depth chart to start his week as they prepare to face Maryland on Saturday afternoon, it now has Cade McNamara back in a starting role.
McNamara sustained a concussion in Iowa’s win over Northwestern on October 26th. He was replaced by Brendan Sullivan, who started the next two contests before injuring his ankle in the second half of the loss to UCLA. McNamara did not dress for the next two games as he recovered from the concussion. Last week he fully completed all the steps of the concussion protocol and was cleared to return to action.

This season he has completed 104-172 passes for 1017 yards and six touchdowns. McNamara has also thrown five interceptions this season in his eight starts for the Hawkeyes. With Sullivan sidelined due to the ankle injury, Jackson Stratton will continue as the backup quarterback, as he has been for the previous two games. Stratton saw action in the loss to UCLA, leading Iowa on a scoring drive. He completed 3-6 passes for 28 yards and had one rushing attempt for 14 yards.
Complicating Iowa’s depth at the quarterback position is the fact that third sting signal caller Marco Lainez is also sidelined with a wrist injury. At this time, Iowa’s third string quarterback is walk-on true freshman Kyler Gerardy, who came to Iowa to play defensive back, but was a quarterback at the high school level.
