The countdown to the kickoff of the 2024 Iowa football season is growing closer. One of the markers that signify the fact that the start of the season is just around the corner is the traditional late May release of start times for early season Big Ten football games.

That took place on Thursday when the conference released the start time and TV designation for the first three games of the season. They also announced a few more start times, including a later kickoff for the Iowa/Nebraska game that will be played this year at Kinnick Stadium.

This season is the first where the new Big Ten TV deal will be fully operational. Last year was the first that the conference was no longer on ESPN. Fox will once again have their prime game on as their Big Noon kickoff that could include Big Ten teams. NBC has their night game window, which is the early evening, starting at 6:30 p.m. That started last season. The most significant change is with the CBS games. Last year it was splitting time with the SEC, who was in the final season of their contract with CBS. Now the 2:30 window is owned by the Big Ten.

On Thursday we found out five of the start times for the twelve Iowa football games.

The opening game against Illinois State will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. and air on the Big Ten Network.

Iowa’s week two game against Iowa State will be broadcast nationally on CBS starting at 2:30 p.m.

Then in week three, Iowa hosts Tory. That game will kickoff at 3 p.m. and air on Fox Sports 1.

Another traditional start time that gets announced in late May is for the homecoming game. Iowa will be hosting Northwestern for that contest on October 26th. It is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. and the TV carrying the game will be determined at a later date.
