Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson enters NFL Draft
Just a few days after wrapping up one of the best seasons ever by an Iowa running back, Kaleb Johnson announced his intentions to enter the 2025 National Football League Draft that will be held in April.
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to take the next step in my journey and declare for the NFL Draft. This decision was not made lightly, but with great excitement and anticipation that I embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead. The foundation that I have built here at Iowa has prepared me for this moment, and I carry the Hawkeye spirit with me as I move forward,” Johnson said in a statement.
This was a true breakout season for Johnson. After missing the first half the first game of the season due to an internal punishment, Johnson simply tore up college football for the next three months.
He finishes up with 1537 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns on the ground. He also has 188 yards receiving and a pair of scores. The touchdown total is a new single season school record at Iowa.

Johnson is a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, which will be announced next week following the conference championship weekend. He was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award semifinalist.
While he did not specifically indicate that he would skip Iowa’s upcoming bowl game, the expectation from this announcement is that he will not play in the bowl game. That means Kamari Moulton and Jaziun Patterson will lead the Hawkeye ground game in their post season game. Moulton has 377 yards rushing a pair of scores this season. Patterson has 235 yards rushing and has also scored twice.
