With Owen Freeman out on Tuesday night, the Iowa players knew that they would have to chip in a little bit more to the cause if they were going to defeat South Dakota. They did that and then some in the 96-77 victory, as Josh Dix led the way with 23 points and Seydou Traore, playing his first game of the season, came off the bench to score 12 points.

Dix and Traore met with the media after the game and talked about getting off to a good start, which Dix did, drilling a three pointer out of the gate. Traore, who was dealing with a foot issue to open the season, said he was feeling fine in his Iowa debut and talked about his nice slam dunk feed from point guard Brock Harding in the contest.
