Hawkeyes roll past Wildcats
A change at quarterback resulted in a change in trajectory for the Iowa football team on Saturday afternoon. Cade McNamara left the game in the first half after an interception with Iowa trailing 7-5. Enter Brendan Sullivan and the Iowa offense finds it’s footing on the way to a convincing 40-14 win over Northwestern at homecoming in Iowa City.
Sullivan didn’t start great on offense, going three and out and his first three drives under center. But, on the fourth drive just before halftime on a two minute drill, Sullivan used his legs for a first down run and then on third and one from the 26 yard line, Kaleb Johnson sprinted up the middle for a 26 yard touchdown and a 12-7 lead at the break. Johnson was relatively quiet for the first half of the game, but, finished with 109 yards rushing for the game and three touchdowns.
In the second half, Iowa opened up a huge advantage scoring 28 points in the third quarter. Iowa took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched down the field. Sullivan converted a third down play with his legs and then on a first down play, he made a short pass to tight end Johnny Pascuzzi that ended up being a 40 yard gain to the Northwestern six yard line. Sullivan ran off the right edge for the score and a 19-7 lead.
On the next drive, Iowa forced a quick thee and out and after coming close several times this year on punt and kickoff returns, Kaden Wetjen took a Wildcat punts and danced down the left sideline for an 85 yard score and a 26-7 lead for the Hawkeyes.

Big Ten will not punish Wolverines or Spartans following the end-of-game fight on Saturday.
Another Wildcat three and out and the Iowa offense was once again on the move. The Hawkeyes then marched down the field once again. A Johnson run was reviewed and not called a fumble. Sullivan converted a fourth and one run for a first down and on the next play, Johnson was off to the races again, this time 41 yards for the score and a 33-7 lead for Iowa.
On their first play, Northwestern was intercepted by Jay Higgins after a tip by fellow linebacker Nick Jackson. On the first play from scrimmage, Johnson took off for another score, this time from 25 yards out and a 40-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Up next for the Hawkeyes is a game against Wisconsin. The game time for that contest has yet to be set.
