Iowa headed to Nashville for bowl game

The Iowa football team has learned their bowl destination and for the second time in two years they will be headed to Nashville. The Hawkeyes will face Missouri in the Transperfect Music City Bowl on December 30th. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm and will air on ESPN.
This is officially Iowa’s second trip to Nashville. Iowa was supposed to play Missouri during the 2020 season, but the game was cancelled due to a Covid outbreak among the Tigers players after returning from a Christmas holiday.
Two years ago Iowa faced Kentucky in this game and won 21-0. Both teams were depleted at the quarterback position. First time starter for Iowa, Joe Labas, completed 14-24 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown. Xavier Nwankpa and Cooper DeJean had pick sixes in the contest. DeJean was named MVP of the game.

Iowa and Missouri have met once before in a bowl game. That was the 2010 Insight Bowl in Arizona where the Hawkeyes won 27-24. Iowa pulled that game out late in the fourth quarter when Micah Hyde intercepted a pass and took it back for a 72 yard touchdown. In that contest, Marcus Coker rushed for an Iowa bowl record of 219 yards.
Overall, Missouri holds a 7-6 edge in the overall series. The 2010 meeting was the first between the two schools since 1910.
