The Iowa basketball team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes received an at-large bid to the Big Dance. Iowa was seeded 8th in the Midwest region and will face 9th seed Auburn in the first round taking place in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday.

The exact time and television outlet will be officially announced later on Sunday evening by the NCAA and the television partners.

Should Iowa advance past the first game, they would face the winner of Houston and Northern Kentucky on Saturday for the right to play in the Sweet 16.

This marks the fourth straight NCAA Tournament that the Hawkeyes have been invited to the NCAA Tournament. Last year Iowa earned the automatic bid after winning the Big Ten Tournament. This year they received an at-large bid.

Iowa has now been invited to the NCAA Tournament seven times during the Fran McCaffery era. The Hawkeyes are 4-6 in those seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament under McCaffery. Last year Iowa lost in their first game to Richmond, but in the previous four trips, Iowa won their initial game before dropping the game in the round of 32.

The Hawkeyes will be making their 29th trip to the NCAA Tournament. Iowa has an overall record of 31-30 in the Big Dance.

This season the Hawkeyes have posted a 19-13 record. They are led in scoring by first team All Big Ten performer Kris Murray, who is averaging 20.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. This year, Iowa has posted a 1-3 record in neutral site contests with a win over Clemson in the Emerald Coast Classic in November and losses to TCU in the Emerald Coast Classic, Duke in the Jimmy V event at Madison Square Garden, and Ohio State in Chicago at the Big Ten Tournament.
