When spring practice started, the numbers for the Iowa Hawkeye offensive line was extremely small. In fact, according to Logan Jones and Connor Colby, the Hawkeyes were down to just six players who were in uniform.

The good news is that as spring ball has continued on, more Iowa offensive linemen have gotten healthy. Currently their numbers are up to 13 and continue to climb. Since the end of the season, it’s been a lot of physical and film work for both Jones and Colby. Last year at this time, Colby was trying to transition out to tackle, but that never took. He’s now comfortable at left guard and feels like he’s found a home.

For Jones, last year was drinking from a fire hose as he tried to not only learn how to play the center position for the first time and also try to identify the moves of the opposing defensive line. In the winter, he’s spent time with former Hawkeye James Ferentz, who has helped him to speed up his snap and improve his ability to read a defense.
