Tracking where Iowa's recruits play this week
In this feature, we break down where and when each of the Iowa Hawkeye football recruits play this week so you can follow along this season.
Eli Johnson
Tight end Eli Johnson and River Falls kick off their season this Thursday, August 22, with a game at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln at 7 PM.
Last season, River Falls finished 6-4 with Johnson having 17 catches for 214 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.
Jimmy Sullivan
Quarterback Jimmy Sullivan and Fort Wayne Carroll kick off the season on Friday, August 23, with a home game against Hamilton Southeastern at 7:30 PM.
Last season, Carroll finished 7-3 with Sullivan throwing for 1,508 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior.
Cameron Herron
Offensive lineman Cameron Herron and Warren Central begin their season this Friday, August 23, with a road game at Fort Wayne Snider at 7:30 PM.
Last season, Warren Central finished 5-7 with Herron dominating the interior of the offensive line.
Carson Nielsen
Class of 2026 offensive tackle Carson Nielsen and Waterloo West have a preseason scrimmage at home this Friday, August 23, against Waverly-Shell Rock and West Delaware at 7 PM. Their season opener is August 30 against Waterloo East at 7:30 PM.
Last season, Waterloo West finished 4-5 with Nielsen leading the way upfront on the offensive line.
Scott Starzyk
Kicker Scott Starzyk and The Woodlands have a preseason scrimmage against Westfield this Friday, August 23, at 7 PM. Their season opener is August 31 at Cinco Ranch at 7:30 PM.
Last season, The Woodlands finished 9-4 with Starzyk making 4/4 field goal attempts with a long of 49 yards. He also averaged 39.9 yards per punt and 58.9 yards per kickoff as a junior.
Thomas Meyer
Tight end Thomas Meyer and Clear Lake have a preseason scrimmage at Osage this Friday, August 23, at 5:30 PM. Their season opener is August 30 with a home date against Forest City at 7 PM.
Last season, Clear Lake was 8-2 with Meyer playing well on both sides of the ball, finishing his junior year with 25 catches for 407 yards and eight touchdowns on offense along with 38.5 tackles and 14 tackles for loss on defense.
Burke Gautcher
Linebacker Burke Gautcher and Sycamore begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a game against DeKalb at Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Stadium at 2:45 PM.
Last season, Sycamore finished 9-2 with Gautcher racking up 70 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and four interceptions as a junior.
Carson Cooney
Linebacker Carson Cooney and Oswego begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a home game against Neuqua Valley at 7 PM.
Last season, Oswego finished 6-4 with Cooney collecting 71 tackles and eight tackles for loss his junior year.
Mason Woods
Versatile athlete Mason Woods and Iowa City West begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a game at Iowa City Liberty at 7 PM.
Last season, Iowa City West went 4-5 with Woods showcasing his versatility on both sides of the ball for Iowa City West, finishing the season with 35 catches for 535 yards and three touchdowns on offense along with 17.5 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions on defense.
Joey VanWetzinga
Offensive lineman Joey VanWetzinga and Pleasant Valley begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a home game against Bettendorf at 7:15 PM.
Last season, Pleasant Valley finished 8-2 with VanWetzinga leading the way upfront on offense and racking up 37.5 tackles and 10 tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball.

Iose Epenesa
Defensive end Iose Epenesa and Edwardsville begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a game at Glenwood at 7 PM.
Last season, Edwardsville finished 10-2 with Epenesa racking up 46 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles as a junior.
Lucas Allgeyer
Offensive lineman Lucas Allgeyer and his MICDS team begin their season on Friday, August 30, with a game at Hillsboro at 7 PM.
Last season, MICDS went 9-3 with Allgeyer leading the way upfront on both sides of the ball, finishing the year with 64 tackles and 19 tackles for loss on defense.
Brad Fitzgibbon
Defensive tackle Brad Fitzgibbon and Chicago Marist begin their season on Saturday, August 31, with a home game against Morgan Park at 1 PM.
Last season, Marist finished 6-6 with Fitzgibbon racking up 33 tackles and 19 tackles for loss in the middle of the defensive line.
Drew MacPherson
Defensive back Drew MacPherson and Loyola Academy open the season on Saturday, August 31, with a road game at East St. Louis at 7 PM.
Last season, Loyola Academy finished 14-0, winning their second consecutive state championship in Class 8A. Mostly a running back and wide receiver in high school, MacPherson had 855 yards rushing, 515 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns as a junior.
Ryan Fitzgerald
Quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald, who right now is a preferred walk-on commit for the Hawkeyes, will also be playing for Loyola Academy in their season opener on Saturday, August 31, at East St. Louis at 7 PM.
Last season, Fitzgerald threw for 2,056 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 634 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground in leading Loyola Academy to a 14-0 record.
CJ Bell
Cornerback CJ Bell and St. Thomas More have a preseason scrimmage scheduled for Friday, September 6, at Suffield at 11 AM. Their season opener is September 15 at Framingham State.
Last season, St. Thomas more finished 5-6 with Bell showing great ball skills as a lockdown corner.
