“When we got into our transition offense, they really struggled to stop us, no matter what it was,” said Caitlin Clark. “Whether we were hitting threes or it was Monika inside, I know Kate got a layup off a fast break. Sydney Affolter comes in and has two really good drives to the rim. Hannah’s out running the court.”
February 21st: Maryland 96 Iowa 68 (College Park, MD)
- Four Terrapins scored in double figures, including a combined 43 points and nine three-pointers from Brinae Alexander and Lavender Briggs of the bench. Shyanne Sellers finished with 17 points and ten rebounds.
- Iowa’s three-point defense struggled, allowing Maryland to shoot 14/26 (53.8%) from behind the arc.

- Iowa came into the game ranked 14th in assist-to-turnover ratio, but Maryland forced Iowa into a season-high 24 turnovers. That turned into 24 Terrapins points.
“(We) turned the ball over too many times. We gave up too many O boards in that second quarter, and everything that they put up went in tonight,” said Lisa Bluder. “I think they did a really good job being physical and denying passing lanes. I think that we were a little sloppy, but I think it was because of Maryland’s great defense.”

BIGGEST KEY FOR THE HAWKEYES: Limit turnovers
Maryland is 12-1 this season when they force their opponent into 20+ turnovers. The Hawkeyes turned it over 24 times in their loss at Maryland. The Terrapins rely heavily on their ability to convert turnovers into points. They are averaging 20.5 points per game off of turnovers, which accounts for 26.0% of their points per game. Iowa must avoid throwing away possessions this afternoon, because Maryland is amongst the best in the country at making it hurt.

THE PICK
Since the Hawkeyes defeated Maryland in Iowa City, Brenda Frese’s squad has been cooking. They have won seven games in a row, including a 17.4 point average margin of victory. The Terps are playing their best basketball of the season and have been looking like a potential one seed. Diamond Miller is averaging 21.9 ppg over their winning streak.
Iowa was really good in the first matchup in Iowa City, but Maryland racheted up the defense at home and may have figured out a way to slow the Hawkeyes attack. The crowd will be majorly skewed in favor of the Hawkeyes and they are the reigning champs, but the Terps may be playing too well. MARYLAND 88 IOWA 81
