It’s official. We have Iowa Women’s Basketball schedule in its entirety. Earlier today, the Big Ten Conference announced dates for all 14 teams schedules, with conference play culminating in Minneapolis at the Target Center for the Big Ten Tournament from March 6th-10th. The Hawkeyes will open conference play on the road with a trip to Madison for a game against the Wisconsin Badgers on December 10th. It is the second straight season that Lisa Bluder’s squad will begin Big Ten play at the Kohl Center.

Toughest Stretch: at Nebraska (Feb 11), vs Michigan (Feb 15), at Indiana (Feb 22), vs Illinois (Feb 25), at Minnesota (Feb 28), vs Ohio State (Mar 3)

Lisa Bluder and the Hawkeyes have faced some pretty tough closing stretches over the last couple of seasons. In 2021, they faced ranked teams in six of their last nine regular season games. Last season, they faced ranked teams in four of their last eight games. Per the ESPN Way-Too-Early Top 25, Iowa will face three ranked teams in their last six games, while there is a chance that five of their final six opponents will make the NCAA Tournament.

The standout games in this stretch come against the Hoosiers in Bloomington and the Buckeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to close out the regular season. Both teams are ranked in the ESPN top ten and both games could have Big Ten regular season title implications.

Everyone loves the marquee matchups, but don’t forget that the Hawkeyes will be trying to avenge their loss to Illinois in Champaign last year and that a trip to Lincoln is never an easy win. They are also apart of the tough final month of the season.

Easiest Stretch: at Wisconsin (Dec 10), vs Minnesota (Dec 30), vs Michigan State (Jan 2), at Rutgers (Jan 5)

The Hawkeyes were gifted a chance to get off to a really good start in Big Ten play with four teams that they have had a lot of recent success against. For the second straight season, Iowa will face Wisconsin and Minnesota to open the Big Ten slate. Lisa Bluder has won 27 in a row against the Badgers and nine in a row against the Gophers.

The other two matchups come against Michigan State and Rutgers. It took overtime in East Lansing last season, but the Hawkeyes have won seven of the last nine meetings in the series. As for the Scarlet Knights, Iowa has won 11 of 12 meetings since they joined the Big Ten.

Also tucked into this beginning stretch of Big Ten play is the final two non-conference games against Cleveland State (Dec 16) and Loyola-Chicago (Dec 21). Look for Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes to take advantage of this stretch.

Trap Game: January 10th at Purdue

Right off of that stretch of six games, the Hawkeyes travel to West Lafayette for a matchup against the Boilermakers. A road game against an NCAA Tournament team right off an easy stretch, with a huge Saturday home game against Indiana waiting just a couple days later? That’s the defintion of a trap game. Head coach Katie Geralds has the Purdue program going in the right direction, which makes this game one that cannot be taken lightly.

Iowa returns three starters, including National Player of the Year Caitlin Clark, who averaged 27.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.6 assists for a Hawkeye squad that advanced to the National Championship game. They also return starting guards Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall, as well as Big Ten Sixth Player of they Year Hannah Stuelke.

The Hawkeyes will open the season with the “Crossover at Kinnick” exhibition on October 15th against the DePaul Blue Demons inside Kinnick Stadium. The official season opener is set for November 6th against Fairleigh Dickinson at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
