There was so much going on at Kinnick Stadium on Sunday afternoon that the actual game that took place was hardly even talked about. The Iowa Women’s Basketball team broke the NCAA women’s basketball attendance record, as 55,646 fans showed up to cheer on the Hawkeyes in an exhibition matchup against DePaul. Iowa defeated the Blue Demons 94-72, behind a triple-double from Caitlin Clark.

The Hawkeyes trailed early in the first quarter, but Addi O’Grady snagged a transition pass from Caitlin Clark and converted for her first basket of the game to make it 7-6. Later in the quarter, Molly Davis got to the hoop for a smooth drive and scoop layup to extend the lead to six. Iowa led 24-18 after the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, the Hawkeyes extended their lead to double digits. Sydney Affolter converted a tough driving layup and dumped off an assist to Addi O’Grady a possession later to cap a 10-3 run to open the quarter. Moments later, Caitlin Clark buried the Hawkeyes first three-pointer of the game in transition to get the crowd going. Iowa went into halftime with a 52-37 lead.

The lead ballooned to 74-46 in the third quarter, as Caitlin Clark, Taylor McCabe and Molly Davis teamed up to hit three three-pointers in three minutes. Iowa took a 77-51 lead into the final ten minutes, but DePaul had a late run in them to close the gap.
