The famous Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD will play host to the Iowa women’s basketball team during the 2024-25 season. The Sanford Sports Complex announced on Friday afternoon that the Hawkeyes will face the Kansas Jayhawks in a non-conference matchup on November 20th. Tickets will go on sale at 10:00am CT on February 29th.

It will be the seventh all-time meeting, with Kansas leading the series 4-2. The two teams last met in 2009, with the Jayhawks winning 66-55 in Iowa City.

“The Iowa women’s basketball team is one of the biggest draws in all of sports right now, and this is an incredible opportunity to see a team that has captured the attention of the entire country,” said Jesse Smith, vice president of operations for Sanford Sports in a press release. “This matchup has the makings of an historic event not only for the Sanford Pentagon – but for South Dakota.”

The Iowa Hawkeyes have made 29 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, including nine Sweet Sixteens, five Elite Eights and two Final Fours. Last season, Iowa advanced to their first ever national title game, after defeating undefeated South Carolina in the national semifinal. This season, the Hawkeyes are 22-3 and ranked fourth in the AP Poll.

“Our team has the opportunity to play in the Pentagon, a storied venue, that will be certain to draw a great group of Hawkeye fans from the Northwest side of Iowa and beyond,” said Lisa Bluder in a press release by Sanford Sports. “Playing Kansas from the Big 12 conference is a great chance for our team to test themselves against another power five school on a neutral court.”

The Kansas Jayhawks have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, including four Sweet Sixteen appearances. Last season, the Jayhawks went 25-11 last season and won the WNIT, taking down Columbia in the championship game. The Jayhawks are currently 14-10 this season.

“The Pentagon is a great venue for college basketball, and we look forward to playing in Sioux Falls next season,” said Kansas head coach Brandon Schneider in the same press release. “We have been very intentional about creating a strong non-conference schedule to prepare our team for conference play. Facing a Big Ten opponent the caliber of Iowa will be a great test for our team early in the season.”
