Iowa Women's Basketball lands Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen
On Monday night, Lisa Bluder and her coaching staff were in Brooklyn to celebrate Caitlin Clark getting selected #1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Draft. Under 48 hours later and they have found her replacement for the 2024-25 season. A source confirmed to HawkeyeReport on Wednesday afternoon that Villanova transfer point guard Lucy Olsen had committed to the Hawkeyes. She is rated the #4 available player in the transfer portal by ESPN and the #5 overall transfer for the class.
Out of Collegeville, PA, Lucy Olsen was named 2021 Pennsylvania Miss Basketball at Spring-Ford High School. She committed to Villanova and spent the first three years of her collegiate career with the Wildcats.
As a freshman in 2021-22, Olsen made 33 starts, averaging 7.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 29.8 minutes per game for a Nova team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team and shots 37.2% from the floor.
As a sophomore in 2022-23, Olsen started all 37 games, averaging 12.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 33.1 minutes per game for a Nova team that advanced to the Sweet 16. She was a Second Team All-Big East selection, shooting 41.1% from the floor and 35.6% from three-point range.

This past season as a junior, Olsen took over the role of primary scorer, with Villanova all-time leading scorer Maddy Siegrist heading to the WNBA. She ranked third in the country in scoring averaging 23.3 points, including 25 games with 20+ points. Olsen earned Big East Most Improved Player, First Team All-Big East and AP Honorable Mention All-American. She notably scored a career-high 40 points against Temple on November 19th.
Over 20 teams contacted her after she entered the portal, while LSU, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee were reported to have the most interest.
