Molly Davis sidelined with knee injury
In what was otherwise an almost perfect day for the Iowa women’s basketball program, the one down moment was when Molly Davis went down with an injury. The senior guard crumpled to the ground near the Iowa basket in the lane and was immediately attended to by the Hawkeye training staff.
Davis was carried off the court by training staff and gave a thumbs up as she left the court. Eventually she returned to the arena floor, but her right leg was wrapped in a bandage and she was in a wheelchair.
Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder offered limited details on Davis and her condition moving forward.
“I don’t know the extent of her injury. I hope to know more tomorrow,” Bluder said.
In all likelihood, Davis is going to miss some time, perhaps the entire post season for the Hawkeyes. This season she has emerged as a starter in the Iowa backcourt. She started 27 of the 30 games this year, averaging 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. This season she has also dished out 93 assists and had three assists in 18 games this year. Davis shot 40.7% from three point range and 85.7% from the foul line.
What will this mean for Iowa moving forward?
Iowa started Sydney Affolter in the second half. She finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds in the win over Ohio State. For the season she is averaging 7.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Affolter would be the most likely candidate to move into the starting lineup, giving Iowa a bit more size and rebounding heading into the post season.

It will also likely mean more minutes for guard Kylie Feuerbach. She played one of her best games of the season in the win over the Buckeyes, which included four steals in the third period of the game. This season, Feuerbach is averaging 2.9 points per game and she is shooting 31.6% from three for the season.
Another player who could jump into the mix for more minutes it Taylor McCabe. She only played 3 minutes and 35 seconds in the win over Ohio State. However, McCabe did score 15 points against Minnesota on 5 of 7 from three point range.
