Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Women’s Basketball team have quickly becoming one of the most popular teams in all of women’s basketball. Last year, Hawkeye fans traveled across the country to Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Seattle and Dallas to watch their team make a run to the national title game. Iowa ranked second in the country in home attendance, averaging 11,143 fans per home game. They played 12 games in front of 13,000+ fans, including a crowd of 19,482 for the national title game in Dallas. Now, the Hawkeyes might be looking at a brand new record crowd and it will come in a brand new venue.

Iowa Women’s Basketball announced that they will face the DePaul Blue Demons in an open scrimmage on October 15th for the first ever ‘Crossover at Kinnick’. The game will be broadcasted on BTN+ and all proceeds from the event will be donated to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

“I am thankful that our administration has the same vision as we do for our program and are willing to take on this amazing opportunity for our team to be showcased,” said Lisa Bluder in a press release from the school. “Our team is excited to be able to attempt to break the all-time attendance record for women’s basketball. I know, if anyone can do it, Hawkeye fans can and will!”

“We’re super excited to play in front of the best fans in the country inside Kinnick Stadium,” Marshall said. “We’re thankful to have an administration that gives us this platform to elevate our sport.”

The NCAA Women’s Basketball attedance record sits at 29,619, set during the 2002 Final Four. The semifinals between UConn, Tennessee and Oklahoma, Duke set the record, as did the national championship game between UConn and Oklahoma.

Last season, DePaul finished with a 16-17 record, including an 8-12 mark in Big East play. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament, but fell to Villanova to end their season. The Blue Demons are tasked with retooling their squad, as four of five starters entered the transfer portal.
