#8 Iowa Women's Wrestling dominates #7 East Stroudsburg in inaugural season opener

The eighth-ranked Iowa Women’s Wrestling team began their inaugural season against seventh-ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The Hawkeyes were dominate winning 43-1, earning eight tech falls and three falls. At 116, Brianna Gonzalez picked up the first pin in program history when she took down #6 Emily Klein. Iowa earned two more pins from Haley Ward and Alivia White at 170 and 191, respectively. The Warriors scored just two points all day. Zoe Gress won two points for a takedown at 136, but Iowa’s Nanea Estrella went on to win the match 12-2.
The Hawkeyes are led by former Olympic bronze medalist Clarissa Chun and opened the season tied at #8 in the NWCA Coaches Poll with Lock Haven. The top five includes North Central, King University, McKendree, Colorado Mesa and Sacred Heart.

Up Next, the Hawkeyes travel to New Jersey for the Princeton Tiger Collegiate Open on Sunday. The tournament is set to begin at 8:00am and will be streamed on ESPN+. Iowa will host #5 Sacred Heart, #11 Lindenwood and #13 Presbyterian at the Trailblazer Duals at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on November 4th.
