Bostick headed to the transfer portal
Iowa wide receiver Jacob Bostick is leaving the Hawkeyes and headed to the transfer portal. The 6-foot-2, 183-pound Illinois native officially made the announcement on social media Tuesday morning.
“I would like to thank Coach Ferentz and the entire coaching staff, as I’ve grown and learned a lot – it has been truly a blessing to be a Hawkeye,” said Bostick in his statement. “Special thanks to Coach Copeland for believing in me and pushing me to be the best in all aspects of my life. And to Kammy, the doctors and the best training staff – thank you for all you have done for me, I will never forget it. Lastly, I would like to thank my teammates, the fans and the Children’s Hospital for making these past two years so special. With that being said and prayerful consideration, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining. I’m excited to take this leap of faith into this new chapter.”
A three-star prospect coming out of Palatine High School, Bostick signed with the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2022, choosing Iowa over scholarships from Illinois, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Air Force, Army, and Navy, among others.
After redshirting his first year on campus and missing significant time due to injuries, he appeared in five games during the 2023 season but recorded no statistics. Snap counts in those five games for Bostick were 28 versus Tennessee, 16 against Nebraska, 12 against Illinois, and one each against Rutgers and Northwestern.

Impact for Iowa
While Iowa needs a few departures this spring to get down to 85 scholarships, especially if they want to add one or two new players via the portal, this one comes at a position that is already pretty light on numbers. With Bostick gone, it leaves the Hawkeyes with six scholarship receivers on the roster this spring and two more set to arrive when the freshmen report in June.
Currently, the eight scholarship receivers for next season are Seth Anderson, Kaleb Brown, Jarriett Buie, Alex Mota, Dayton Howard, Terrell Washington Jr., Reece Vander Zee, and KJ Parker. Washington was at running back last season, but recently has been taking more reps at wide receiver.
