Jay Higgins taking a leadership role
Last year the Iowa defense and linebacker group was led by All American and Butkus Award winner Jack Campbell and his running mate, Seth Benson. They were the anchors of the Hawkeye defense that was among the best in the country.
This year both Campbell and Benson are off to chase their NFL dreams and Jay Higgins is now the veteran leader of the position group. He says he is using what he learned from those two to help lead the linebacker group this season.
There will also be a new addition to the linebacker room coming this summer. That’s Nick Jackson, who will be transferring to Iowa from Virginia. Higgins hosted him on his visit and plans to share a house with him this season. He talks about his relationship with Jackson and how he was a great fit for the Iowa program.
