Nearly 18 months ago, Josh Dix suffered a gruesome lower leg injury during his senior year of high school that left his immediate basketball future in doubt. On Wednesday, the sophomore to be guard for the Iowa Hawkeyes was invited to the training camp for USA Basketball and their U19 squad.

In his freshman season, the 6-foot-5 and 190 pound guard played in 31 games, averaging 9.2 minutes per contest and 2.0 points per game. Dix shot 14-35 from three (40%) and dished out 28 assists for the season.

The Council Bluffs native had a career best 10 points against Michigan on January 12th when he played a season high 31 points in the win. Dix also handed out a career high five assists against the Wolverines and followed that up again a few days later against Maryland.

Dix is one of 35 players to be invited to the training camp that takes place in Colorado Springs, CO starting on June 11th. The team will cut to 12 members and then head to Debrecen, Hungry to take part in the FIBA U19 World Cup starting on June 24th and running until July 2nd.

“We are excited about the pool of players that will compete to represent the United States at the FIBA Men’s U19 World Cup,” USA Basketball Men’s National Team director Sean Ford said. “We have a great mix of players with previous USA Basketball experience and newcomers, and together will field a great team for the competition in Hungary.”

University of Colorado head coach Tad Boyle will be leading the team. He will be assisted by Mike Boynton from Oklahoma State and Leon Rice from Boise State.

Should Dix make the team it would mean that he will play twice overseas this summer. Iowa men’s basketball is also scheduled to play in Spain in the month of August. The schedule for those games are yet to be announced.
