JUCO punter Ty Nissen walking on at Iowa
Junior college punter Ty Nissen is walking on at Iowa. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Carroll native, who attended Iowa Western Community College, has already joined the Hawkeyes and will be in preseason camp with the team this month according to sources.
Nissen, who earned honorable mention All-American honors at Iowa Western, averaged 36.7 yards per punt as a sophomore. He has worked with former Iowa kicker Keith Duncan, who praised his ability to utilize spiral, rugby, and pooch punts with consistency, which he demonstrates on film including an 82-yarder to start out with.

For the Hawkeyes, Nissen will provide much-needed depth behind Tory Taylor this season, especially with the news today that backup kicker/punter Aaron Blom has been accused of underage sports wagering including one bet on Iowa football, which is likely going to lead to a lengthy suspension.
Also, Taylor is set to graduate after the 2023 season and the competition for 2024 should be wide open.
