Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, Sharon Goodman talk Senior Day
It feels like the end of an era for the Iowa women’s basketball program. The senior class that is departing spent a lot of time helping grow the program to new heights. With one more postseason run still to come, this group has already won back-to-back Big Ten Tournaments (2022, 2023), made a Sweet 16 (2021) and advanced to their first ever national title game (2023). They’ve also helped Iowa became the most popular team in the entire country.
Kate Martin is wrapping up a six-year career with the Hawkeyes that started all the back 2018. Martin has scored over 1,000 career points, pulled down over 5000 career rebounds and is just one of ten Hawkeyes to record more than 400 career assists. She has also been known as the “glue” of the team for the last few seasons for her leadership skills. Kate talked about her future plans, which include being a player and a coach, her decision to stay for a 6th season, her thoughts on the rest of her senior group and more.

Gabbie Marshall is coming to the end of a five-year career with the Hawkeyes. She became the first ever Iowa player to record more than 200 three-pointers and 200 steals in a career. Marshall was a critical part of the Hawkeyes Final Four run, knocking down 34 three-pointers over the span of nine games to end the year. She has also been known as the best defender on the team. Gabbie talked about her emotions heading into Senior Day, her plans to attend North Carolina for a Master in Occupational Therapy and what it means to be apart of an Iowa team that has reached new heights of popularity.
Sharon Goodman announced on Friday that she will forego her final two years of eligibility to pursue a career in nursing at another school. Goodman dealt with adversity throughout her basketball, including the death of her mother during her senior year of high school and tearing her ACL as a sophomore. This season, Sharon began the season as the starting center and put up a career-high 19 points in the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson. Goodman had an emotional press conferece, thanking God, her coaches, teammates and the Iowa fanbase for their support throughout her career.
