Kennedy Blades named USA Wrestling Women's College Wrestler of the Year

University of Iowa junior Kennedy Blades has been named USA Wrestling’s Women’s College Wrestler of the Year, it was announced by the organization Thursday morning.
Blades captured the 2025 NCWWC National Championship at 160 pounds in her first collegiate season. In the championship match she defeated second-ranked Kaylynn Albrecht of McKendree by first period technical fall, 10-0. En route to the title, Blades picked up four tech. falls outscoring her opponents, 43-0. Blades was named the NCWWC Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament.
The junior is a Region VII champion where she recorded four-straight tech. falls and was on the mat for a total of three minutes and two seconds.
The Chicago, native finished the 2024-25 season with a 25-0 record with 23 tech. falls and two pins. Just two of her matches reached the second period and she recorded her fastest pin in just 38 seconds.
