Marlynne Deede wins match at NWCA All-Star Classic
Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State in State College, PA was the site of the 52nd NWCA All-Star Classic on Tuesday night. It is a yearly event that brings some of the best men’s and women’s wrestlers in the country together for a one night event.
The prestigious event began in 1967 and continued uninterrupted until 2017. After a four year break, the All-Star Classic made its return in 2022 in Austin, TX. This year, Penn State earned the honor of hosting the event.
On the women’s side, Hawkeye wrestler Marlynne Deede was selected to compete in the 160 lb match against Life University’s Latifah McBryde. A fifth-year senior transfer from Augsburg University, Deede is a four-time All-American and currently ranked #1 in the NWCA rankings. McBryde is the #1 ranked wrestler at 160 lbs in the NAIA rankings. Marlynne Deede won the match via decision by a final score of 8-3.
So far this season, Deede has wrestled in two matches for the Hawkeyes, both coming at the Trailblazer Duals. She defeated Rebecca Strong of Lindenwood via pin in 1:16 and Madison Sandquist of Sacred Heart via pin in 1:32.
