Coach Molly Davis. That will be the new title for the former Hawkeye guard, as the Evansville Aces Women’s Basketball program announced on Wednesday afternoon that Davis will join the staff as a graduate assistant.

“When her coaches at Iowa reached out to me about Molly’s interest in our graduate assistant position, I knew right away she would be a great fit. She has a high basketball IQ and is a hard worker,” said Evansville head coach Robyn Scherr-Wells in a press release from the school.

In the Hawkeyes 115-62 win over Evansville during the 2022-23 season, Molly Davis totaled five points, seven rebounds and five assists. That stands as the most points scored in a game in program history.

“Molly is a winner and has been a part of many successful teams. She will be a tremendous asset to our players in helping them understand all of the things that go into building a championship program. She has a bright future in coaching and I am excited for the opportunity to mentor her in her first coaching role.”

Molly Davis started her basketball career at Central Michigan University, where she spent three years as a member of the Chippewas program. As a freshman at CMU, Davis averaged 14.3 points per game and earned a spot on the All-MAC Freshman Team. As a sophomore, she averaged 20.8 points per game and knocked down 76 three-pointers, helping the Chippewas to an 18-9 record, including a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

In her junior season, Davis averaged 18.6 points per game and earned Second Team All-MAC honors. She tied a career-high with 32 points against Northeastern and Northern Illnois. Molly finished her career ranking 11th in program history in points scored (1,434), 8th in three-pointers (187) and 7th in assists (346). After her junior season she opted to enter the transfer portal, where she committed to the University of Iowa.

Davis spent two years with the Hawkeyes, playing for a team that advanced to back-to-back national title games. This past season as a fifth-year senior, Molly averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and shots 53.9% from the floor. She scored in double figures in eight games, including a season-high 18 points in a highly-touted home game against 14th-ranked Indiana. She also scored 17 points in wins over Illinois and Maryland, while also earning Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team honors early in the season.
