The Iowa basketball season has been filled with a number of missed games due to injuries. Those injuries continued to mount on Monday when it was announced that starting center Owen Freeman would miss the remaining portion of the regular season after surgery on his shooting hand.

The 6-foot-10 center is leading the Hawkeye attack on offense, averaging 16.7 points per game. He is also leading the team in rebounding with 6.7 per game and he also leads Iowa with 35 blocks. Overall he was shooting an impressive 63.8% from the floor this season.

Last year, Freeman was named co-freshman of the year in the Big Ten Conference. He averaged 10.6 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the week nine times last year, which led the conference.

This season the Moline native scored a career high 23 points in the loss to USC. He posted double-double this season in the win over Washington State and the victory over Indiana. Against Washington State he scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Against the Hoosiers, Freeman scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

With Freeman out, Iowa will not have to adjust again up front. When he missed a game earlier this year, Ladji Dembele stepped in as the starter. That game was against New Hampshire and he scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds in nearly 18 minutes of action. This season he is averaging 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. Another option who has been getting a bit of run in recent weeks is Riley Mulvey. He is averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
