Owen Freeman(1)
Owen Freeman is thriving thanks to lessons from his parents.

Both of Owen Freeman’s parents were college basketball players. His father, Zach, stands 6-foot-9 and his mom, Christina is 6-foot tall. They taught their son a lesson that is proving to be very valuable in his college basketball career, and that’s to never bring the ball down when he is in the post. That lesson has helped him to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times this season.

It’s also helped prepare him for doing battle with the veteran physical giants in the Big Ten. He will do that again on Saturday when Iowa hosts Rutgers at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. He talks about how his parents help develop him as a basketball player, when he first beat his dad in a game of one on one, and facing post players in conference play.
