Payton Sandfort to compete in State Farm 3 point contest

University of Iowa senior Payton Sandfort will participate in the State Farm College Dunk and 3-Point Championships at the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, at 6 p.m. (CT) on April 3 at the Frost Bank Center – the home of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
Sandfort becomes the seventh Hawkeye to be invited to the event and first since 2022, joining Dean Oliver (2001), Luke Recker (2002), Jeff Horner (2006), Adam Haluska (2007), Peter Jok (2017) and Jordan Bohannon (2022). Jok won the event in 2017 in Phoenix and Bohannon in 2022 in New Orleans.
During his four-year career, Sandfort scored 1,619 points, which ranks 11th in program history. He made 271 career 3-point field goals – second-most all-time – and finished with the best free throw percentage (.896) in the record books.
Sandfort started 74 of his 134 career games (tied for the seventh-most all-time), where he made at least one 3 76 times. He had two or more 3s in 64 games, three or more 37 times, four or more in 29 contests and 5+ nine times, including a career-best eight 3s in his final game as a Hawkeye against Illinois in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament.
