Payton Sandfort, Owen Freeman discuss 5-5 start
At Thursday’s media availability, it was two players for the Iowa men’s basketball team that are seeing the recent three game losing streak at different angles. For junior forward Payton Sandfort, he’s a veteran that has been through losing streaks over his time at Iowa. His job right now is to be a leader and help the team stick together in an effort to bust out of the losing streak. He’s also been apart of teams that have rebounded from midseason losing skids to make the NCAA Tournament, so he knows there’s still plenty of time left to turn things around. For freshman forward Owen Freeman, he hasn’t lost this many games in a row since his freshman year at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, so the losing streak is something he isn’t as accustomed to.
Sandfort spoke about what he has learned in past years at Iowa and how he has applied it to being a leader for the team this year, as well as reseting focus with five days between games and more. Freeman spoke about being in the starting lineup for the first time, how he has adjusted to college basketball, sticking together through tough stretches and more.
