Although there is heavy rain and snow in the forecast for the rest of the week, the Iowa Baseball team was able to sneak in their home opener on Monday evening against DIII Loras College. The Hawkeyes rolled to an 11-3 victory, improving their record to 5-6 on the season. Offensively, Iowa used big innings, plating four runs in the first, three in the sixth and four in the seventh. The moment of the game was Blake Guerin’s two-out, three-run home run in the sixth to give the Hawkeyes a 7-1 lead. On the mound, Iowa pitchers were dominant, allowing three runs on four hits over 9.0 innings, including 14 strikeouts to just two free bases. Up next, the Hawkeyes will travel to Piscataway for a three-game series against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to open Big Ten play this weekend.
