The UI Soccer Complex was the place to be on Thursday night in Iowa City, as the 18th-ranked Hawkeyes faced off against the 15th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Dave Dilanni’s squad emerged with a 2-1 win, despite falling behind early in the match. It’s the first time in program history that the Hawkeyes have won multiple regular season games against ranked opponents.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, with a goal from forward Amelia White just under one minute into the match. What seemed like a gut punch was quickly countered by the Hawkeyes. In the 5th minute, Sofia Bush got an open look from the edge of the box and delivered a brilliant strike to even the game up at a goal apiece. Then, in the 31st minute, Iowa got the go-ahead goal from South Dakota State transfer Maya Hansen. She got a toe on a sliding attempt in the box and found the back of the net to give the Hawkeyes a lead they would not relinquish.
