What’s better in sports than a meeting between two rivals? On Thursday night, the 20th-ranked Iowa Soccer team welcomed the reigning Big Ten regular season champion Nebraska Cornhuskers to Iowa City for each teams Big Ten opener. The Hawkeyes netted a pair of second half goals to capture a 2-0 win and extend their shutout streak to five games.

In the 65th minute, midfielder Sofia Bush took advantage of a lackadaisical pass from the Nebraska back line, evading GK Cece Villa and slotted home a goal to give the Hawkeyes the lead. Later, in the 81st minute, Iowa got an insurance goal from Meike Ingles. On a transition break, Ingles noticed Cece Villa way off her line and floated a long range goal into the net to make it 2-0. The Hawkeyes have won five of their last seven against Nebraska and have now won 48 of their last 53 games when scoring 2+ goals.

HawkeyeReport.com photographer Dennis Scheidt was at the UI Soccer Complex on Thursday to capture some photos of the action. The Hawkeyes will face the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames on Sunday.
