The Iowa Women’s Basketball team traveled to Norman this past weekend for the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. After making back-to-back national championship game appearances, the Hawkeyes found themselves in the underdog role, visiting a regional hosted by 3rd-seeded Oklahoma.
In their tournament opener on Saturday, the 6th-seeded Hawkeyes defeated 11th-seeded Murray State 92-57, behind a massive third quarter that saw Iowa put up 30 points. Five Hawkeyes scored in double figures led by freshman Ava Heiden who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. On Monday, Iowa returned to Lloyd Noble Center hoping to punch their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen, but were unable to pull off the upset, falling to the Sooners 96-62. In their first season under head coach Jan Jensen, the Hawkeyes finished with a 23-11 record and won 11 of their final 15 games.
