The Iowa Women’s Basketball team was back at Carver-Hawkeye Arena last night for their non-conference finale against Loyola-Chicago. The Hawkeyes got off to a slow start, but outscored the Ramblers 47-23 in the second half en route to a 98-69 victory. Iowa goes into the Christmas break with a 12-1 record.
Despite being 30-point underdogs per WarrenNolan.com, Loyola-Chicago did not back down early in the game against the fourth-ranked Hawkeyes. The Ramblers hit eight first half three-pointers and, at one point, led 35-28, but a Kate Martin three in the closing seconds of the half gave Iowa a 51-46 lead. In the third quarter, it was a 19-3 run from the Hawkeyes that put them in control and they rolled to a 29-point win. Caitlin Clark earned her 13th career triple-double with 35 points, 17 rebounds and ten assists. Hannah Stuelke (20), Kate Martin (19) and Sydney Affolter (10) all scored in double figures, while Stuelke and Affolter combined for 15 rebounds.
