Play-by-play recap: Iowa 12 Rutgers 6
The Iowa Baseball team took the series finale in Piscataway on Sunday, scoring runs in six innings en route to a 12-6 win over Rutgers. After falling behind on the weekend with a loss on Friday, the Hawkeyes rebounded to win the final two games and take the series. With the win, Iowa moves to 7-7 overall and they start Big Ten play with a 2-1 record.
The Scarlet Knights seized momentum with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead, but the Hawkeyes wasted no time getting it back. They got a run in the sixth, before exploding for four runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to open up a 12-6 lead they would not give up. Offensively, Iowa slugged three more home runs, including the seventh of the season from Jackson Beaman.
Over the last five games, the Hawkeye offense has scored 57 runs and hit 13 home runs. They totaled ten home runs on the weekend in Piscataway, with Jackson Beaman, Miles Risley and Ben Swails each hitting multiple home runs.
