Play-by-play recap: Iowa 13 Bradley 3 (F/7)
It was a chilly, windy and sometimes rainy night at Dozer Park in Peoria. Far from perfect weather, but not uncommon for a March/April midweek game in the Midwest. The Hawkeyes took advantage of free bases from the Bradley pitching staff, putting up a couple of crooked numbers and pulling away for a 13-3 run-rule win in seven innings. Iowa has now won 15 of their last 18 games to move to 18-9 on the season.
The Hawkeyes jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, despite not recording a hit in the first inning, as the Braves walked seven and had an error. Bradley fought back, cutting the deficit to 5-3, with Timmy O’Brien hitting a pair of solo home runs. However, Iowa finally pulled away, putting up five runs in the fifth and adding three more in the seventh, including a two-run home run from Kooper Schulte to put them game into run-rule territory.
It’s the 12th time in the last 18 games that the Hawkeyes have scored 10+ runs, while it is their sixth run-rule victory of the season. Iowa will travel to Evanston for a three-game series with Northwestern this weekend.
