Play-by-play recap: Iowa 7 Minnesota 6

Break out the brooms, Iowa Baseball has swept another Big Ten series. The Hawkeyes hung on late to defeat Minnesota 7-6 and earn their second consecutive sweep in conference play. With the win, Iowa moves to 17-9 overall and 10-2 in Big Ten play, which will give at the very least a share of first place in the standings going into next week.
Although the offense has been the driving force behind the Hawkeyes successes lately, the bullpen made critical pitches to keep the lead intact in the series finale. It wasn’t pretty, but it ended up just effective enough. Rick Heller was forced to use six bullpen arms to get the final 16 outs, but they got it done. The Iowa pitching staff gave up 12 free bases, but held the Gophers to just 2/16 with runners in scoring position. Tyler Guerin was the hero, getting the final three outs of the game to secure the win.
At the plate, Reese Moore led the way with four hits, including a pair of home runs, while Daniel Rogers hit a home run and added an RBI double in the eighth to make it 7-3 at the time. It proved to be a crucial extra run.
