Play-by-play recap: Iowa 7 Northwestern 1

Extend the winning streak. The Iowa Baseball team defeated Northwestern 7-1 on Saturday afternoon to take the series and set up a potential sweep on Sunday. With the win, the Hawkeyes move to 20-9 overall and 12-2 in Big Ten play.

On the mound, Hawkeye pitchers got the job done again. Aaron Savary allowed just one run on three hits over 6.0 innings, recording seven strikeouts and throwing 59.8% of his 92 pitches for strikes. In relief, Anthony Watts tossed three scoreless innings.

Offensively, Iowa hitters were held in check for the first five innings, but broke through in the sixth with three runs off of NW reliever Crawford Wade. Miles Risley hit a solo home run in seventh, while Blake Guerin tacked on a two-run shot in the ninth for insurance.
