Play-by-play recap: Washington 3 Iowa 1

For the second straight night, Washington walked it off. A two-run home run from Colton Bower in the bottom of the ninth gave the Huskies a 3-1 win over the Hawkeyes at Husky Ballpark. Iowa will need a win in the series finale to avoid being swept in Big Ten play for the first time since 2019.
Aaron Savary, like he has been for the majority of the season, was fantastic on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits over 6.1 innings, including ten strikeouts to two walks. Offensively, the Hawkeyes missed on far too many chances, hitting just .050 (1/20) with runners on base, with the lone hit, a Reese Moore RBI double, giving Iowa their lone run in the third inning.
The Hawkeyes avoided trouble in the seventh and eighth. Ben DeTaeye got Blake Wilson to bounce into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play with two runners on base, while Chas Wheatley got a 4-6-3 double play and a strikeout to escape two on and no outs in the eighth. After a one out single from Malakhi Knight in the ninth, Colton Bower launched a two-run, walk off home run to left-center.
With the loss, the Hawkeyes fall to 31-15 on the season, 20-6 in Big Ten play and will enter Sunday looking to snap a three-game losing streak. It’s Iowa’s first conference series loss of the season.
