The Iowa Baseball team got on the field for a game against another opponent for the first time since their 2023 campaign ended in the Terre Haute Regional against the Indiana State Sycamores. The Hawkeyes have 21 new players on the roster this season and defeated Mississauga Academy in their fall opener by a final score of 25-6 in 14 innings.

At the plate, the Hawkeyes offense racked up 25 runs on 21 hits, including 14 extra-base hits. Michael Seegers led the way with three hits, a three-run home run and a team-leading three RBI’s. Gable Mitchell finished with three hits and two runs scored, while Blake Guerin and College of San Mateo transfer Connor Hennings each hit a home run. Freshman Jaixen Frost, as well as Coy Sarsfield and Kellen Strohmeyer combined for six hits and five runs. Strohmeyer finished with 2/3 with a triple, a double and two runs scored.

On the mound, the Iowa pitching staff struck out 27 Mississauga batters and walked eight over 14 innings. The Tigers finished with just eight hits. Six pitchers put together three up, three down innings, including Marcus Morgan, Cade Obermueller, Creighton transfer Anthony Watts, Jack Whitlock, Ben DeTaeye and Zach Voelker. Freshman Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue, Indian Hills transfer Sam Hart, Kirkwood transfer Ganon Archer and TCU transfer Justin Hackett looked solid despite each allowing a runner or two on base.

Up Next, the Hawkeyes face Madison College for their second of three games this fall next Friday at Duane Banks Field. First pitch is set for 3:00pm CT and admission to the game is free.
