Iowa Baseball is back. The Hawkeyes took on Mississauga Academy on Friday evening to kickoff of the fall season and picked up a 20-0, shutout win over the Tigers in 14 innings. Up next, the Hawkeyes will host Nebraska-Omaha on October 4th at Duane Banks Field.

The Iowa offense totaled 16 hits against Mississauga pitchers, including seven extra base hits. Northern Kentucky transfer Mitch Wood went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a three-run home run in the 8th inning to put the Hawkeyes up 7-0. Merrick Mathews added an RBI single in the 10th, while a seven-run 11th inning made it 16-0 Iowa.

On the mound, Hawkeye pitchers dominated. Eleven different arms saw the mound, combining for 24 strikeouts to just one walk, while the Tigers managed just three hits. Nearly 70% of the 185 pitches thrown by Iowa arms went for strikes.
