Hill makes college decision

After receiving a new scholarship offer today, defensive back Ronnie Hill Jr. quickly made his college decision. The 6-foot-0, 183-pound Michigan native, who attended Iowa’s camp on Thursday, verbally committed on the spot once he heard back from the Hawkeyes.
“I just couldn’t stop smiling and I committed,” Hill told HawkeyeReport.com.
For Iowa, it was defensive coordinator Phil Parker that made the call on Sunday after being impressed by Hill’s knowledge of the game and versatility to play all over the field in the secondary.
“It was Coach Parker,” said Hill. “He said that he loved me at camp and he was impressed by my knowledge of the game and then he offered me. He can see me playing safety or cornerback, but more cornerback right now.”
Iowa was the first Big Ten program to offer Hill with earlier scholarship opportunities coming from Northern Illinois, Kent State, Miami-OH, Eastern Michigan, Austin Peay, Mercyhurst, and Grand Valley State.
“It feels great,” Hill said. “Coming into the year, I knew that I wanted to put it all out there so all the hard work and dedication I’ve being putting in on the field was rewarded. Getting a Big Ten offer shows that I’ve been putting in the work so it’s a great feeling, but the work isn’t over yet. It’s just the next chapter.”

Once the offer was presented, Hill said it was an easy decision to accept the opportunity to play for one of the best defenses in the country year in and year out with Parker at the helm.
“I feel like if you want to be the best at what you do, you have to get coached by the best,” said Hill. “Coach Parker is one of the best there is and I feel like he will develop me and give me the best opportunity to play at the next level.”
Hill, who attends Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, MI, is happy to finally have the weight of his college decision off his shoulder.
“I was rushed with joy,” Hill said. “The best feeling of it all was telling my mama and seeing the tears of joy on her face.”
