This is a very strong group of tight ends that will be eligible to be picked in the NFL Draft. There are some who believe that up to four may be picked in the first round of the draft in April. While Sam LaPorta is unlikely to be picked in the first round, it won’t be too long after that when the former Hawkeye will hear his name called.

LaPorta is coming off an outstanding performance at the NFL Combine, so he only really ran some routes and did the bench press at Iowa’s Pro Day. One of the benefits of the NFL Combine was LaPorta was able to build some pretty strong relationships with his fellow high end tight ends. He discusses those bonds that have developed and the NFL Draft process.

This past season, LaPorta caught a team high 58 passes for 657 yards and one touchdown. For his career, he finished up with 153 receptions for 1786 yards and five touchdowns. He was named the MVP of the Iowa offense this past season and earned Big Ten tight end of the year honors.
