SUMMARY: Iowa Women's Wrestling competes at the Missouri Valley Open

The Iowa Women’s Wrestling team was back in action this weekend, as they traveled to Marshall, Missouri for the Missouri Valley Open. The Hawkeyes led the tournament with 41 technical falls, while they recorded 16 pins and finished with a 84-23 record.

Iowa had wrestlers competing in the finals of nine of the 11 weight class finals, including a matchup of teammates Sterling Dias and Emilie Gonzalez at 101 lbs. Sterling Dias (101 lbs), Brianna Gonzalez (116 lbs), Felicity Taylor (123 lbs), Esther Han (136 lbs), Reese Larramendy (143 lbs) and Samantha Calkins (235 lbs) all won titles. Seven other Iowa wrestlers finished in the top four.

Iowa led the way with six first place finishes and 12 total top three finishes. Southern Oregon finished with two first place finishes, while William Penn and Simon Fraser each had one first place finish. McKendree had five top three finishes, but no champions.

“We came here to get better, and I believe that no matter the outcome, each individual did just that,” said head coach Clarissa Chun. “I loved seeing everyone be there and support their teammates the entire weekend. We represented our program well and I am excited to continue through this season together.”
