SUMMARY: Iowa Women's Wrestling competes at Princeton Tiger Collegiate Open

After a dominating opening night against East Stroudsburg, the Iowa Women’s Wrestling team traveled an hour and a half south to New Jersey for today’s Princeton Tiger Collegiate Open.

18 Hawkeyes wrestlers competed across nine weightclasses and against 18 different schools and clubs. Iowa came away with six champions, two second place finishes, two third places finishes, one fourth place finish, two fifth places finishes and a sixth place finish. 14 of the 18 Iowa wrestlers finished in the top six of their class.

Starting off at 101 pounds, sophomore Emilie Gonzalez outscored her opponents 27-0 over four matches, including a pin. She won the championship match over teammate Sterling Dias. At 109 pounds, sophomore Ava Bayless outscored her opponents 19-2, including a pin and a 9-2 decision over Lock Haven’s Kaelani Shufeldt in the championship.

After earning the program’s first ever pin last night, sophomore Brianna Gonzalez won the title at 116 pounds. She defeated Kaura Coles of Pan-AM ICS 10-8 in the semifinals and then pinned Chloe Ayres (2:13) of Princeton in the championship. At 123 pounds, fifth year senior Felicity Taylor combined to win her first three matches 34-2 en route to a spot in the championship. She defeated Vayle-Rae Baker of West Point, 7-4, in the title match.

The teams last two champions came from the final two weightclasses. At 170 pounds, freshman Haley Ward rolled a title going, tech. fall (11-0), pin (0:53), tech. fall (10-0) for the championship. Finally, at 191 pounds, freshman Alivia White won her first two matches in a combined 1:02 to advance to the championship match. In that match she did the same thing, pinning Sophie Pollack of Delaware Valley in 60 seconds.
