The Iowa Women’s Basketball team is familiar with Colorado. The Hawkeyes met up with the Buffaloes in last season’s Sweet Sixteen in Seattle, with Iowa winning 87-77 to advance to the Elite Eight. This year, the location changes to Albany, but the goal remains the same for Lisa Bluder and Co. While both teams are similar to the versions that faced off last season, there are plenty of differences as well. One of the key differences for the Hawkeyes is the emergence of Syd Affolter. The junior guard played just three minutes in last year’s meeting, totaling two rebounds and a steal. Fast forward to now and Affolter is set to start her sixth game in a row on Saturday with Molly Davis still out due to a knee injury. Over that stretch, Syd is averaging 12.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

Affolter met with the media on Friday afternoon to discuss the matchup with the Buffaloes, her role last season compared to this season and going up against two 6’3 players in the Colorado starting lineup. She also talked about getting experience against a physical defense and grinding out a win over West Virginia.
