Syd Affolter sidelined until "early November" after undergoing surgical scope on her knee
On Tuesday afternoon, the Iowa Women’s Basketball team announced that senior forward Syd Affolter underwent a surgical scope of her knee at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center. She will miss time with the injury, but is expected to return to play in early November.
“This is an unfortunate setback for Sydney, but she will work hard during her rehab and is expected to make a full recovery,” said head coach Jan Jensen in a release from the school. “She has the support of her teammates and coaches, and we look forward to having a healthy Sydney back when she is given clearance from our medical staff.”
As a junior last season, Affolter averaged 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 24.8 minutes per game. After Molly Davis went down with an injury in the regular season finale against Ohio State, Syd stepped into the starting lineup, scoring in double figures in seven of the final nine games of the season. She was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and the Albany 2 All-Regional Team.

If Affolter is unable to play in the first couple of regular season games, expect senior guard Kylie Feuerbach to step into the starting lineup. It would also potentially vault freshman forward Teagan Mallegni to the first player off the bench.
